Dr. Paul Griffey is a third-generation board-certified ophthalmologist, following in the footsteps of his father, R. Thomas Griffey, M.D., and grandfather, Walter P. Griffey, M.D. Raised in the Tidewater area, Dr. Paul Griffey graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of Virginia in 1991 and went on to complete medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in 1995. After medical school, he completed two years of general surgery residency and a full ophthalmology residency at EVMS. He was among the first physicians in the United States to perform laser refractive surgery during residency training.
Dr. Griffey is a former Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and has served as Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Sentara Norfolk General and Sentara Leigh Hospitals.
As a board-certified ophthalmologist, he has a special interest in performing advanced laser cataract surgery, glaucoma management and surgery, laser refractive surgery (PRK and LASIK), and treating anterior segment disease. He is skilled in managing diabetic eye disease and providing comprehensive eye care and dry eye treatments.
Dr. Griffey is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to all of his patients. When not working, Dr. Griffey enjoys spending time outdoors and making memories with his wife and four children.
